direct-sequence spread spectrum

  • A form of spread spectrum modulation in which the information-carrying bit stream is combined with a pseudorandom bit stream at a higher bit rate, and this combined signal modulates the carrier. Although this spreads the modulated carrier over a much greater bandwidth, it provides greater security, and in many cases when some bits are lost, the ability to recover the data without retransmission. Its abbreviation is DSSS.
