dozy

Definition

Slang

  • adjective slow-witted, foolish. The word is now a colloquialism; in the 1950s it was part of ‘vulgar’ speech. Originally it meant sleepy or lazy and was (and still is) a favourite term of abuse employed by sergeant majors and officers in the armed forces, teachers and other authority figures.
