  • An aboveground or underground line which connects a terminal of a distribution cable to a subscriber's premises. Such a line may carry telephone service, cable TV, a link to a network, electric power, and so on. It may consist, for example, of a telephone wire extending from a pole to the home of a subscriber. Also called drop (2), drop wire, or service wire.
