  • The green-skinned slightly peppery tasting seed pod of a tree, Moringa oleifera, which is very thin and up to 40 cm long with small cream-coloured seeds. The young pods can be used as a vegetable or when older, boiled and the centre scooped out for use in soup. The mature beans only are used in Indian cooking. Originally from India it is now grown in the Caribbean, Africa and Southern USA.
