- The fruit of a Malaysian tree, Durio zibethinus, cultivated all over Southeast Asia, which has an offensive odour but pleasant taste. It has a green to yellow spiky thick rind, is shaped like a rugby ball and weighs up to 4.5 kg. The segmented flesh is a yellowy soft pulp containing brown inedible seeds. Eaten raw or in both sweet and savoury dishes. The flesh may be canned and the peel is used to smoke fish.
