- A painless and noninvasive medical diagnostic technique which utilizes ultrasonic waves to produce images of the internal structures of the brain. A piezoelectric transducer is placed against the scalp, and sends an ultrasound beam which is reflected off the various internal structures. The instrument utilized for this procedure is an echoencephalograph, and the recorded images are called echoencephalograms (1). Also called echoencephalogram (2).
