edge triggering

Definition

Electronics

  • The triggering of a device, such as a flip flop, depending on whether the edge of a clock pulse is rising or falling. For instance, a device can be set to sample data only when the edge of its synchronizing clock pulse is rising, in which case it is positive edge triggered. If it were to sample data only when the edge of its synchronizing clock pulse is falling, it would then be negative edge triggered.
