Effect Size

Health Economics

  • A measure of the difference in outcome between intervention groups. The average outcome in an experimental arm minus that in the control arm divided by the standard deviation in the control arm. In epidemiological studies with dichotomous (binary) outcomes and exposures it is often expressed as a relative risk, odds ratio or risk difference for binary outcomes and as difference in means for continuous outcomes.
