  • A standard interface for serial communications between a serial device, such as a modem or a mouse, and a computer. Although this is the current term for this interface, it is still better known by its former name, RS-232C. Also called EIA-232, EIA/TIA-232, EIA-232-E, or TIA/E1A-232-E.
