electrodynamic speaker

  • A type of speaker in which an audio frequency signal current is sent through a voice coil, which is attached to a diaphragm. The interaction with a constant magnetic field provides the coil with a piston-like movement, which is mechanically transferred to the diaphragm, which in turn generates the sound waves that emanate from the speaker. Also called electrodynamic loudspeaker, dynamic speaker, or moving-coil speaker.
