ends

Definition

Slang

  • plural noun money. The term, probably originating in black street argot in the 1950s, was later adopted by college students. It may have begun as ‘N’s’, referring to (bank)notes, or possibly derived from the cliché ‘to make ends meet’. It is also said to be a shortening of ‘dividends’ or from ‘ends and means’.
