error-correction coding

  • A coding technique in which sent data is automatically checked for errors upon reception. If any errors are detected, they are automatically corrected. This method has a maximum of detectable errors, and once reached, is no longer reliable in this capacity. Used, for instance, by modems, and in RAIDs. Also called error-correcting code.
