  • A control system in which a feedback signal and a reference input are compared in order to control the output quantity, so as to maintain operation within the specified parameters. For example, a thermostat may provide the feedback signal in a heating or refrigerating system. This contrasts with an open loop control system, which has no feedback signal. Also called closed loop control system.
