Definition

Theater

  • In early Roman times, verses of a scurrilous personal nature that were extemporized by performers at fairs and festivals. The tradition of Fescennine verses (perhaps named after Fescennium, in what's now Tuscany) is thought to have contributed to the early development of Roman drama.
