  • First of England’s Astronomers Royal (Scotland has its own) and the first head of the English national observatory in Greenwich, a suburb of London. (The Royal Greenwich Observatory is now in Cambridge.) Flamsteed produced one of the first modern star catalogues and positional observations of the Moon and planets.
