  • An acoustic radiator consisting of a flat panel a few millimeters in thickness, which vibrates over its entire surface without pistonic motion. Such panels are very lightweight, disperse sound evenly in all directions at all reproduced frequencies, and have a fairly linear frequency response. Also called flat-panel loudspeaker, flat-panel distributed-mode speaker, or distributed-mode speaker panel.
  • A speaker which is especially thin and usually lightweight. Used, for instance, as computer speakers placed on a desk, or as wall-mounted speakers in a home theater system. Also called panel speaker.
