  • A pavement structure that maintains intimate contact with and distributes loads to the subgrade and depends on aggregate interlock, particle friction, and cohesion for stability. Cementing agents, where used, are generally bituminous materials, as contrasted to Portland cement in the case of rigid pavement. See also rigid pavement.
