  • A lesser-known musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein.Set in San Francisco's Chinatown, it explores intercultural tensionsthrough the love affairs of two Chinese-American women (played inthe original production by Japanese actresses). It was first performedin New York in 1958 and received unanimously bad reviews. The Britishcritic Kenneth Tynan (remembering the film The World of Susie Wong)called the Flower Drum Song "the world of woozy song".Nevertheless, the show ran for 601 performances and closed in theblack.

    The songs included 'Grant Avenue', 'I Enjoy Being a Girl',and 'Sunday, Sweet Sunday'.
