  • The famous and expensive truffle, Tuber melanosporum, from Périgord which grows in the root area of oak and hazelnut trees. In appearance it is wrinkled and warty, dark brown to black with a strong distinctive fragrance and mild flavour. Now grown in California, New Zealand and Australia.
