front contact

Definition

Electronics

  • In a relay or switch, a contact pair that is open in the resting state, and which is closed when energized. The contact pair consists of a stationary contact and a movable contact. A front contact provides a complete circuit when energized. This contrasts with a back contact, in which the contact pair is closed in the resting state. Also called normally-open contact, or make contact.
