front-surface mirror

Definitions

Electronics

  • A mirror whose reflective coating is on its front surface. In this manner, there is no refraction, and image distortion is minimized. Used, for instance, in instruments such as microscopes and lasers. This contrasts with rear-surface mirror, where the reflective coating is on its rear surface. Also called first-surface mirror, or surface-coated mirror.
