Gaiety Girl



  • One of the chorus for which the old Gaiety Theatrein the Strand, London, was famous in late Victorian and early Edwardiantimes. Such productions as The Shop Girl (1894) and TheCircus Girl (1896) were designed to give full reign to the singingand dancing talents of the chorus, as well as to display their goodlooks. Several of the Gaiety Girls, many of whom came from humbleorigins, married into the peerage.
