Computing

  • noun a set of standards for a synthesiser that set out the first 128 different instrument sounds in a synthesiser and the number that refers to it. For example 40 is always a violin.

Electronics

  • A MIDI standard which enables computers and musical devices to communicate effectively, and which helps insure that files created on one computer using this standard are compatible with another utilizing it. It specifies, for instance, 128 standard sounds in specific locations. Its abbreviation is GM.
