Golden Boy



  • A play by Clifford Odets that opened in 1937 at theBelasco Theatre, New York, for a run of 250 performances; it was presenteda year later in London. A successful musical version was staged onBroadway in 1964, starring Sammy Davis Jnr. The plot concerns JoeBonaparte, a talented violinist who turns to boxing to finance his musicalcareer, despite his fear of injuring his hands. He decides to return to music after killing an opponent in the ring, but he and his girlfriend die in a car crash before this can be accomplished.
