gumby

Definition

Slang

  • noun an aggressively gormless, clumsy and/or dull person. From the name of a character personifying these qualities in the TV comedy series Monty Python’s Flying Circus in the 1970s (in turn partially inspired by peter Cook’s earlier invention ‘E. L. Wisty’). The personification and name were taken up by British and American teenagers in particular.
