# Hall coefficient

## Definitions

### Electronics

- A
__constant__ of proportionality utilized when performing calculations associated with the Hall effect. When calculating the strength of the electric field, *E*_{H}, the following formula may be utilized: *E*_{H} = *R*_{H}JB, where *R*_{H} is the Hall coefficient, *J* is the current density, and *B* is the magnetic flux density. The sign of the Hall coefficient changes with the sign of the __charge carrier__, so it serves to indicate the sign of the majority carrier. Also called Hall constant. - synonymHall constant
