halon fire extinguisher

  • A suppressing system for use on all classes of fires. Its extinguishing agent is bromotrifluoromethane, a colorless, odorless, and electrically nonconductive gas of exceptionally low toxicity. Considered to be the safest of the compressed gas fire-suppressing agents. Although often used in computer equipment rooms, the use of halon is severely restricted because of its properties (which destroy the ozone layer).
