  • An isotope of hydrogen whose nucleus contains a neutron and a proton. It is a highly explosive and flammable gas. It is not radioactive, and is used, for instance, to bombard atomic nuclei. Also called deuterium.
  • An isotope of hydrogen whose nucleus contains two neutrons and a proton. It is radioactive, and is used, for instance, in cold cathode tubes, in tracer studies, and to bombard atomic nuclei. Also called tritium.
