hot-wire ammeter

Definition

Electronics

  • An ammeter which incorporates a stretched hot wire (3) whose length at any given moment depends on the current passing through it. Its variations in length deflect an attached pointer, which is correlated to a calibrated scale. Such an ammeter serves to measure both direct and alternating currents. Also called thermal ammeter.
