hybrid fiber-coaxial network
- A communications network combining fiber-optic and coaxial cables, and which carries broadband content. A cable TV provider, for instance, might use the fiber-optic portion as a high-speed backbone, and the coax portion to run from the headend to the individual subscribers. Its abbreviation is HFC network. Also called hybrid fiber-coax.
