  • Detailed energy level structure of the electrons of an atom. The hyperfine structure of hydrogen, e.g., includes the slight difference in energy level between the two possible directions of the electron’s orbit (see hydrogen), rather than the gross difference between the different energy levels which the electron can occupy.
