ice cream

General English

  • A flavoured, sweetened and coloured mixture of (egg) custard and cream (substitute) rapidly frozen to a stiff paste to avoid the formation of large detectable ice crystals. Used as a dessert and for many made up desserts.

  • noun a man. This piece of now obsolete low-life and demi-monde slang of the 1950s derives from ‘ice-cream freezer’, rhyming slang for geezer.
  • noun a white person. This is a quite separate coinage from sense 1 and is mainly used by black and South Asian schoolchildren to refer dismissively to whites.

  • noun a mixture of cream, eggs, sugar and flavouring or of milk, sugar, water and flavouring, frozen until quite hard
