Inter-Crater Plains

Definition

Astronomy

  • Areas of the surface of Mercury which are free of large craters. The Plains abound with small craters but lack the large ones which cover most of Mercury. They may be areas of great antiquity which have avoided being modified by large impacts, or more recent areas formed after the solar system was swept free of large bodies which could produce major impacts.
