  • A traditional casserole of grated raw potatoes, chopped onions, butter, anchovy fillets or strips of matjes herring and cream baked to a golden crust. Reputed to have tempted a religious fanatic from his vow to give up earthly pleasures of the flesh. Often served at the end of a party when it is supposed to tempt guests to stay longer.
