  • (1910 - 79) British diseuse, whose one-woman show consistedof songs and sketches gently satirizing contemporary social mores.She made her debut in The Little Revue (1939) with a selectionof monologues and mimicry. After World War II, during which she touredhospitals, she appeared in a series of West End revues by NoĆ«lCoward - Sigh No More (1945), Tuppence Coloured(1947), and Penny Plain (1951). In 1945 she made her firstappearance in New York in Joyce Grenfell Requests the Pleasureand subsequently toured worldwide. Her books include Nanny Says(1972), Joyce Grenfell Requests the Pleasure (1976), and George,Don't Do That (1977).
