  • noun a foolish, clumsy person. The word is from the Yiddish klots which literally means lump or block. (It comes from the German Klotz with the same meaning, which is related to the English ‘clot’ and ‘clod’.) In the 1980s the word passed from being an Americanism into world English, particularly among adolescents.
