  • In Japan, a farcical interlude presented between Nōplays. Its clowning is similar to that of the commedia dell'arte,and forms a deliberate contrast with the nobility of Nō.The plots focus on such human weaknesses as greed and lechery. Unlikemost Eastern drama Kyōgen is traditionally acted withoutmusic or masks; it is still popular today.
