late harvest

Definition

Wine

  • used on wine labels to refer to a wine made from grapes left on the vine to ripen, often till almost dry and raisin-like, then picked. This gives the grapes much higher than normal levels of sugar and can also include grapes affected with Botrytis cinerea rot, further concentrating sugar levels. The result is a very rich, sweet dessert wine.
