  • Britain's most prestigious theatrical awards; first presentedin 1976 as the Society of West End Theatre Awards, they wererenamed in 1984 to honour Sir Laurence Olivier. The awardsare given to outstanding actors, dancers, singers, playwrights, composers,directors, and designers. There are three adjudicating panels fortheater, opera, and dance, each of which includes representativesof both the theater world and the general public. The awards are knowncolloquially as Larrys.
