  • In computers, an operation which moves or displaces digits, bit values, or the like, to the left. In a right shift (1), the converse is true.
  • On a computer with two shift keys, the shift key on the left of the keyboard. Some keyboard shortcuts which utilize a combination of keys, for instance, make the distinction between this and the right shift (2).
