  • The 5 cm long, furry, slim unopened flower buds of a day lily, Hemerocallis fulva, with a woody scent, used in Chinese cooking. They are light brown in colour and are soaked in water prior to use. Usually tied up when cooked in simmering dishes to avoid them falling apart.
