  • In the Elizabethan era, a small theater troupe led by LaurenceDutton of the household of the first Earl of Lincoln; the companysometimes took the name of the earl's son, Lord Clinton. They werepreviously known as the Duttons. From 1572 - 75 they performedfrequently at the court of Queen Elizabeth I, and then toured theprovinces for several years; they disbanded at the end of the decade.Another company of the same name toured the provinces from 1599 to1610.
