linear amplifier

Definition

Electronics

  • An amplifier whose output is directly proportional to its input, over a given range of values. The performance of such an amplifier is linear, and when graphed, its response results in a straight line. Ideally, a linear amplifier does not alter the essential characteristics of its input signal, and a high-fidelity amplifier is an example.
