- Assembly of over 30 dozen galaxies including our own and forming a discrete group in space. Its three biggest members are our own galaxy, M33 and M31, the Andromeda nebula. Smaller members include the Greater and Lesser Magellanic Clouds. Spiral, elliptical and irregular galaxies are all to be found within the local group, of which new members are still being found. Members range in distance up to five million light years from our galaxy.
