  • An anonymous tragedy published in 1595 with Shakespeare's initials (W.S.)on the title page. Marlowe has also been suggested as its author. It is certainly not by either.

    The story is taken from Holinshed's Chronicles and the HistoriaRegum Britonum of Geoffrey of Monmouth. In the play Locrine, a Britishprince, becomes king of Logres but loses both throne and life through hisillicit passion for Estrild, queen of Scythia.
