Lognormal Distribution

Definition

Health Economics

  • A variable has a lognormal distribution if the log of the variable has a normal distribution. It is a frequency distribution that is skewed to the right (so the mean is larger than the median) but whose logarithm is in the form of a normal distribution. Like the normal distribution, the lognormal is characterized by two parameters: the mean and standard deviation. Values cannot be negative.
