long-wire antenna

Definitions

Electronics

  • A linear antenna whose electrical length is at least one wavelength of the signal being transmitted or received, and which is a whole-number multiple of a half-wavelength. It is a directional antenna, and is often several wavelengths long; the longer the radiating element, the greater the gain.
  • An antenna whose electrical length is a whole-number multiple of the half-wavelength of the signal being transmitted or received. Also called harmonic antenna.
