Loop-Start Line

  • A line which senses which kind of signaling is required for a phone, or other device using such a line, to operate. Such a line recognizes an off-hook condition, and treats it as request for service. A loop-Start Line extends from a local central office, and when shared by one or more phones it is a typical landline, such as that of a home, and when shared by multiple devices connected to a PBX or key telephone system, it is a trunk.
