Most advanced software applications provide a macro language that lets users extend the application and automate features. However, as macro languages become more advanced and powerful, they also provide an opportunity for someone to create a macro that can delete files or corrupt data when run.


  • A virus encoded as a macro, or which is incorporated into a macro. Such viruses can be embedded into a document file, for instance, and infect the computer each time said file is opened.
