magnetic bit

Definition

Electronics

  • A bit whose value of 0 or 1 is determined by the magnetic polarity of a material, such as that which is magne-toresistive. A surrounding magnetic field is utilized to set the polarity of said bits, and permanent magnets assist in retaining the stored information in case power is cut off. Used, for instance, in MRAM.
